Obsessing – can I quit? What IS self control?

If you have read any of my blogs, you may realize I have obsessed about losing weight. I have never been obese, but was always one of those obnoxious, natural “skinny people”  until age 50. So the extra 10-15# I’ve been carrying around the last 10 years has really bugged me,

On the positive side, it has given me empathy for people who have had to struggle in this area their entire lives and made me less judgmental.

I am a binger. My husband thinks I can’t even pronounce the word m-o-d-e-r-a-t-I-o-n. He may be right. All or nothing is easier for me than moderation or in other words, SELF CONTROL.

As I have prayed about how to “fix” this problem, I’ve had to confront that weight is not the problem but this whole area of self-control. Weird how a “control freak” can lack self control, but it’s true!

So what is self control? Currently my answer to that question is:

* a fruit of the Holy Spirit
* a choice
* a real commitment

It affects every area of my life – physical, mental, communications (which translates into my relationships) and certainly spiritual.

As a person with control issues, I like to write things down, cross them off and get a rush from having accomplished something. I don’t think a life that is submitted to the Holy Spirit can be defined that way.

In my experience He doesn’t follow “formulas” or operate based on techniques to accomplish the Father’s will. It’s so much subtler than that. Perhaps because every person is unique and prized by Him, every situation calls for unique solutions. Yes, principles remain constant, but how we apply those principles; with what kind of heart and motive makes all the difference.

What if I viewed myself and my “problems” from His point of view rather than my own? Could or would that change my behavior? It’s difficult to be objective about oneself. Maybe I wouldn’t be as hard on myself or allow myself to rationalize quite as easily if I took on this other point of view…

This blog has gone in a completely different direction from when I started, but if this makes sense to anyone else, please comment and let’s see if we can learn something and help each other out.

To be continued…

Day 8 – Starting week 2

Weighed in at 145.5 which is 1.5 down for 1st week.

Thoughts – Glad to be “starting over” for week #2 of 21 day blitz. I had such anemotional rollercoaster ride last week, I decided to change some strategy.
This week I am going to take a picture of all I eat prior to eating it and posting it to my “Notes” in my phone. Also, am NOT going to weigh in everyday. I’m just
going to do my best in sticking with my low carb, high protein plan and get in a lot of steps, then weigh and measure myself next Monday at the beginning of week 3. Getting more focused on the overall health and not so obsessed with  my weight number.

Spiritual – started the day with prayer and really asked God for help with all this

Exercise – Walked on treadmill for an hour, Cleaned house and got in over 14,000 steps. Yea!

Drink – 32 oz. of water with the Go Ruby Go and 1/3 tube of Revive in my glasses in the morning Drank 80 oz. total for day.

Food for the day

Bfast – 1/2 c cottage cheese with walnuts and cinnamon

Lunch – Chicken burger with spinach and cheese

Snack – 1 slice baby swiss deli cheese

Day 7 – Down 1#

Weighed in at 145.5  Down 1.5# for the week.

Drank 2 big glasses of water in the morning. Had peppermint at church. Punch at shower

Lunch – Ate cucumber salad, 2 helpings of fruit salad, 2 cheese/lettuce/turkey meat/tomato combos and had 1/4 of cashews during afternoon & another peppermint

Dinner – 4 tablespoons of Cranberry/Almond chicken salad

Feelings – Resisted all kinds of delectable sweets at shower and wasn’t even really tempted due to resolve ahead of time.. Looking forward to starting a new week using a new strategy.

Day 6 – up .5#

Quick Tip for the Day :

Weighed in at 146.5 today, up .5 – Down .5 overall

Spiritual: Did prayers and some meditation in the morning

Exercise: .Painted a rental house for 8 hours straight with a 10 minute break!

Food & drink:
Started with 16 oz. of alkaline water  and followed that up with another 16 oz. of water with 1/3 tube of Re Vive (energy/heart/mind formula)

B-fast -Re Place Protein shake

Supplements:  2 Essentials for Life, (has 6 different products; vitamins, minerals, digestive enzymes, fat burning enzymes, antioxidants, probiotic) 1 Re mind (Omega 3), 1 Re Build (bone building formula), 1 Re Sist  (Immune Builder) 1/4 tsp. of Royal Essentials

Supplements: 3 Essentials for Life, 1 Re Mind, 2 Re Lease, 1 Re Build and another 1/4 tsp. of Royal Essentials honey

Snacks -1/4 cup of raw almonds

Feelings -Wow! This is rough! I have never eaten this way  with such results.Need to do some real soul searching as to why I’m doing this. After starting the first day by losing 1.5#, I thought I would be down by 4 by today. Not the case! I have to see bigger picture, drop the pride, get more realistic expectations and “reset” my head on my overall goals. So glad I am in this with others or else I’d probably say “forget it” at this point and pig out at the baby shower I’m going to tomorrow whose host is the best “dessert/sweets baker” I know!

Day 5 – up .5#

Quick Tip for the Day :  Starting the day acknowledging my own weakness in the area of food and asking God for help reminds me of the “why” for this 21 day blitz. Helps with getting the bigger picture and keeping my priorities in order.

Weighed in at 146 today – up .5# today. Down 1# overall

Spiritual: Did do some meditation and prayers this afternoon and read several chapters in the Bible.

Exercise: . Took care of my 2 year old granddaughter today. Couldn’t find pedometer this morning but guess about 4-5,000 steps.

Started with 16 oz. of alkaline water  and followed that up with another 16 oz. of water with 1/3 tube of Re Vive (energy/heart/mind formula)

B-fast -3 egg omelet with onions, mushrooms and a tsp, of mozzerella. cheese, 1/3 avocado

Feelings -I really struggled with discouragement today and had to remind myself to “stay the course” and remember about my clothes fitting better etc. Tough mentally. I am such a “sprinter” rather than a marathon runner and I want immediate results!  Good lessons to be learned.

Day 4 – No change

Quick Tip for the Day :  Getting in a good stretch every day by giving your major joints a full range of motion is a great way to keep pain away and keep you active and more likely to keep moving, burn more calories, increase oxygen and all that other good stuff exercise does for you!  I do 6 simple poses for 30 seconds each – total of 3 minutes a day – easy peasy.

Weighed in at 145.5 today – no change.

Spiritual: Did Bible study with a friend and read a couple more chapters later in day. Did not do my 15 min med.  and prayers and missed it.

Exercise: . Didn’t do any intentional exercise today but a lot of running around with errands. Probably around 4-6,000 steps

Food & drink:
Started with 16 oz. of alkaline water with Go Ruby Go (heaping scoop in it) and followed that up with another 16 oz. of water with 1/3 tube of Re Vive (energy/heart/mind formula)

B-fast -A protein share (Re Place) with water , one strawberry and a few fresh blueberries

Feelings – I was disappointed again today about no weight change and then realized how few calories I had yesterday and how much exercise – convinced myself I’m turning fat into muscle! (And we ALL know muscle weighs more than fat, right? 🙂 )  We’ll see, I am noticing a difference in clothes and still have lots of energy and feel great.

I plan to take a hot bath before bed and 3 Re Lease with 4 oz. of Re Plenish (Muscadine Grape Juice)

For more info on supplements, go to www.bkgreenliving.com if interested

Day 3 – No change

Quick Tip for the Day :  Drinking a lot of good water (48 oz.) before noon will help keep you “flushed out” and feeling good! It’s great for de-toxing and filling you up to avoid hunger. When eating a high protein diet with a little less fiber and overall calories, it’s easy to get “stopped up”. This works wonders for me – hope you find it helpful too!

Weighed in at 145.5 today – no change. But fit into some pants I’ve never been able to wear before today – yahoo!

Spiritual: Did 30 minutes of prayer/meditation. Read the Bible later in day.

Exercise: .Spent one hour in pool moving and doing water aerobics, 2 miles on treadmill and 45 minutes playing tennis.

Food & drink:
Started with 16 oz. of alkaline water with Go Ruby Go (heaping scoop in it) and flowed that up with another 16 oz. of water with 1/3 tube of Re Vive (energy/heart/mind formula) and took 3 Re Lease (fat burning/digesting supplement)

B-fast -2 fried eggs with 1 slice of swiss cheese and another glass of water..
Supplements: 1/2 tsp. of Royal Essentials (a type of Royal jelly honey), 2 Essentials for Life, (has 6 different products; vitamins, minerals, digestive enzymes, fat burning enzymes, antioxidants, probiotic) 1 Re mind (Omega 3), 1 Re Build (bone building formula), 1 Re Sist  (Immune Builder), 2 more Re Lease.

Lunch -Had about 1/4 of big fat left over pork chop with hot mustard. Repeated supplements minus the Re Sist

Snack – one slice swiss cheese

Dinner 8 small meatballs with Prego chunky spaghetti sauce and fresh grated parmesan cheese, 2/3 cup frozen mixed veggies with butter.

Supplements: 2 Essentials for Life, 1 Re Mind, 2 Re Lease, 1 Re Build and another 1/4 tsp. of Royal Essentials honey

Snacks – Outshine single popsicle bar, later 2 squares 86% cacao dark chocolate

Got a lot more exercise than I intended but felt good and got a good sweat in playing tennis in all the humidity.

At first was disappointed my wgt. didn’t go down for the day but when I fit into the pants I could never wear before, I realized I can lose inches without losing pounds and that is still a plus.

Day 2 Down 1.5 pounds

Quick Tip for the Day : By taking a hot bath or some other way to get your body temp up and heart rate up prior to bed, you accomplish a few good things. First, the cooling down process is a natural sleep aid and will help you fall into a good night’s sleep. Secondly, by getting your heart rate up, your body is burning those calories as you drift off into la la land, plus you are sweating out toxins etc. So a hot bath, hot tub, sauna or steam are all good “exercises” before calling it a day!

Weighed in at 145.5 today – down 1.5 pounds. Very encouraging!

Spiritual: Started day with 15 min. of prayer and meditation. Asked God for help with all of this! Read the Bible later in day.

Exercise: .Over 11,000 steps for the day and got a chiro adjustment

Food & drink:
Started with 16 oz. of alkaline water with Go Ruby Go (heaping scoop in it) and flowed that up with another 16 oz. of water with 1/3 tube of Re Vive (energy/heart/mind formula) and took 3 Re Lease (fat burning/digesting supplement)

B-fast -1/2 cup cottage cheese with handful of raw walnuts and some cinnamon. 16  more oz. of alk. water.
Supplements: 1/2 tsp. of Royal Essentials (a type of Royal jelly honey), 2 Essentials for Life, (has 6 different products; vitamins, minerals, digestive enzymes, fat burning enzymes, antioxidants, probiotic) 1 Re mind (Omega 3), 1 Re Build (bone building formula), 1 Re Sist  (Immune Builder), 2 more Re Lease.

Lunch -Had a King Taco at Hungry Hobo (without the tortilla chips) 2 Essentials for Life, 1 Re Mind

Snack – Handful of almonds and walnuts

Dinner was 1 Organic Chicken/Spinach/cheese burger from Costco (love these! 19 grams of protein, 1 carb and hormone free meat and really tasty!) wrapped in lettuce with some mustard and slice of swiss cheese. 3/4 cup of frozen mixed veggies with butter. 1 more glass of alkaline water.
Supplements: 2 Essentials for Life, 1 Re Mind, 2 Re Lease, 1 Re Build and another 1/4 tsp. of Royal Essentials honey

Snack – Outshine single popsicle bar

Going to take another hot bath for 15-30 minutes before going to bed and 3 more Re Lease.

Had lots of energy today; tonight I had the “snack urge” but resisted (couldn’t bear the thought of reporting it really!)

Day 1

Quick Tip for the Day :  Often when I think I want to eat, I’m actually thirsty or just want something in my mouth. When I get anxious or nervous this comes up more often.  I recommend putting a little piece of gum in your mouth after drinking a glass of water. That usually takes care of it. I’m never really hungry on this program.

Weighed in at 147 today (don’t feel like you have to share your weight, this is just what I am doing.) But you may want to share the minus or plus figure from the day before.

Spiritual: Started day with 15 min. of prayer and meditation. Asked God for help with all of this! Read a book of the Bible later in day.

Exercise: Will have just over 7,000 steps before going to bed.

Breakfast was 2 fried eggs in coconut oil with 1 and 1/2 slices of thin baby swiss cheese and 16  more oz. of alk. water.  Had a 1/3 slice of turkey breast deli meat too. Supplements: 1/2 tsp. of Royal Essentials (a type of honey), 2 Essentials for Life, (has 6 different products; vitamins, minerals, digestive enzymes, fat burning enzymes, antioxidants, probiotic) 1 Re mind (Omega 3), 1 Re Build (bone building formula), 1 Re Sist  (Immune Builder), 2 more Re Lease.

Was at the zoo with granddaughter during lunch – had  1/3 c of roasted almonds and a 1/3 slice turkey breast deli meat and more water.

Dinner was 3/4 of a big fat pork chop grill and with herb butter and whole green beans and onions sautéed in olive oil with pinch of salt, pepper and Truvia. (Natural sugar substitute.) Supplements: 3 Essentials for Life, 1 Re Mind, 2 Re Lease, 1 Re Build and another 1/4 tsp. of Royal Formula

I plan on one of my “popsicles” for my treat tonight. Outshine, the single stick ones made with real fruit.

I will also take a “hot tub” for 15-30 minutes before going to bed and 3 more Re Lease.

I feel good about my day and glad to have a couple more friends joining the process – welcome!

Losing 10-12# in 21 days

I hope you join in the fun and results!

No magic formula but I’m simply cutting out the high carbs and sugars, drinking lots of water and getting in more steps, but most importantly – accountability! I’m not doing this to sell product, but I do use a lot of the Vollara products I distribute and a few I get elsewhere. They are designed to help with energy, digestion and overall vitality. If you want more details on these, let me know or you can check out my site at bkgreenliving.com to find out more about the specific ones I mention.

Whether you read this on Day 1 or or day 21 – feel free to join the process.

Here are a few suggestions for getting RESULTS.

  1. RESOLVE – you must personally resolve to stick to whatever program you commit to for the next 21 days and expect great results for your efforts.
  2. PRIORITIZE – for me, this means for 21 days, making my eating and exercise a high priority. Right after doing my quiet time and getting plenty of water in to start my day, I have to get a fair amount of steps in so I’m not cramming at the end of the day. This also means being more organized with figuring out a menus, having the right foods on hand, not over scheduling myself so I can’t get in my exercise, etc.
  3. WRITE IT DOWN – write down the specifics of what YOU are committing to do for 21 days. Include your WHY and how it will make you feel once you have accomplished it – share that with us or someone
  4. ACCOUNTABILITY -this is a crucial step for me. Knowing I have to “fess up” to others all I put in my mouth in a day (and actually see it written down myself) is a good motivator.

My Personal Goal – To lose 12# pounds (10# minimum), increase personal self discipline both physically and spiritually and lower cholesterol

  1. Each morning I weigh in and mark it down
  2. Do my best to start my day with at least 15 min. of prayer/meditation/reading
  3. Drink at least 16 – 32oz. of water 1st thing. I use Go Ruby Go (a concentrated fruit powder) for one glass and then use about 1/3 tube of ReVive (Vollara energy/mind/heart formula) for the other.
  4. No breads, no Sugary desserts, NO EXCEPTIONS – that is a mantra I have to really stay focused on and repeat to myself whenever tempted!
  5. On Tues, Thurs. and Sat. get in 10,000+ steps. Mon, Wed. Fri. -5-7,000. Totally rest on Sunday – don’t even keep track. Stay with eating plan though
  6. I use the Jorge Cruz Fast Track eating plan as my basic guide but find I don’t need to eat all the snacks and will add a few more carbs in but avoid the high carb veggies like potatoes and corn and eat very few fruits.
  7. My “treats” are 85% dark chocolate (3 squares with a squirt of whip cream) or an Outshine Fruit bar I buy at Walmart that are 30-45 cal. and approx. 10 carbs.
  8. Report all my “intake” for the day and exercise done on this blog.
  9. Communicate a couple times a week with anyone else joining in the process!
